Useful hints for getting the most out of ProMICAD
Starting:
- Explain to first time users that they are about to have an enjoyable experience, making a personal profile that highlights only their best qualities.
- Reassure users that nothing negative wil appear in the profile.
- Select the appropriate level according to the user’s ability:
Level 1 – the language used is basic English, suitable for most 13 to 16 year olds.
Level 2 – the language is of a slightly more advanced standard, suitable for college entry students
Level 3 – assumes a wider vocabulary and is suitable for A level or degree level students
- Check the user has previous experience using a mouse.
- If possible sit with a first time user, (or demonstrate in front of a group), through the entire process of making a profile.
- Try to ensure quietness during the making of a profile. This helps when discussing statements with the user.
- Do not allow the user to be persuaded to choose colours or shapes suggested by others.
- Do not allow first time users to enter other parts of the program before making a profile
