Rationale behind ProMICAD
The ProMICAD system is based on psychological responses to colours and shapes. These responses are matched to a database of 256 different character descriptions. These have been developed from Jung’s psychological functions: Feeling, Thinking, Sensation and Intuition. The user’s completion of the Personal Profiler – selecting a preferred arrangement of colours (or shapes for those with deficient colour vision) – enables entry to an appropriate part of the database.
By selecting and positioning a set of colours or shapes the user provides a configuration matching particular aspects of character contained in the database. This configuration also generates a set of twelve key questions specific to the user’s input. These form a fail-safe device that improves the accuracy of the profile, A further refinement is the user’s facility to remove any statement felt be inappropriate.
Responses are matched to the database of character descriptions structured around Jung’s typology and concepts, for example, of extroversion and introversion. The system also incorporates knowledge of the way in which colours and shapes placed within a cone of vision are assimilated in the two hemisphere of the brain and given a reliable interpretation.
The system has been extensively tested for more than six years in
- Schools
- colleges
- skills training centres
- youth development centres for young offenders, and children who have been excluded or are in care
- prisons
- return-to-work projects
- youth centres
- adult community care centres
- management/assessment programs
