Introduction
The ProMICAD System for Empowerment is an innovative educational program. It enables users to complete an enjoyable self-assessment that produces a personal profile describing their best qualities and raising their self-esteem and confidence.
As a tool for personal effectiveness profiling, ProMICAD is included in the Department for Education and Employment’s Guidance on Assessment in The Learning Gateway scheme for 16 – 17 year olds. The program is also suitable for inclusion as part of Personal Effectiveness training courses for adults and children from the age of 13 upwards. ProMICAD has also become a vital tool for guidance professionals in schools, colleges, adult guidance centres, pupil referral units, young offender institutions, prisons and a wide range of youthcare groups and careers services throughout Britain.
The program is ideally suited for use by teachers, youth workers, careers advisors working with young people and adults, who may for one reason or another, find it difficult to talk about themselves or act positively due to a lack of confidence or self-esteem. The system has proved effective in quickly establishing a mutually respectful and co-operative relationship between caseworker and client. It is especially helpful in the context of work with young people at risk of disaffection or social exclusion.
The program is not suitable for use with people suffering from severe mental health problems or those with acute learning difficulties.
